Deep pink hues wrap this one of a kind sake cup, slowly fading into a soft white glaze where the kiln flames were less present. Makino-san's fingerprints can still be seen where he held the cup while dipping the vessel into his ash glaze.
The pink hues are created when a woodfire kiln's flames interact with the ash glaze on the vessel. The phenomenon is called 'Yohen' meaning 'changed in the kiln'.
Yohen is a rare and highly sought after feature among Hagi yaki enthusiasts.
