A traditional soot bamboo match tea scoop crafted in Takayama, Nara. Skilfully made using traditional techniques by artisan craftsmen. YUGEN hand selects the highest quality of bamboo tea tools to be used in their matcha tea ceremonies.   

Soot bamboo is bamboo taken from the ceilings and attics of traditional Japanese houses. It is characterised by its deep and beautiful natural brown colour, which has been stained by the smoke of the hearth for over 100 years. As time passes, the number of these houses is reducing, making this material increasing scarce.
