Akashino (red shino) pieces are a true celebration of the Shinoyaki ceramic style. The traditional, warm red glaze has long captured the attention of Japanese ceramic lovers. These yunomi teacups by Wakao-san are no exception. This cup was the original piece that drew us to Kokeigama and still gets daily use.

The deep red hues and subtle woodfire charring create unique and intriguing vessels that are sure to capture the eye.

One of the best known ceramic styles from the Mino region, shinoyaki ceramics are still highly regarded across Japan.

Each piece is handcrafted. Slight variations in shape and glazes make every piece its own unique vessel.

Kokeigama

Tucked away at the top of a quiet hill in Tajimi, we were very lucky to discover Kokeigama’s kiln, stumbling upon their work in a local ceramic museum in Tajimi. After purchasing one of his Akashino yunomi and learning Wakao-san was a local craftsman, we got the kiln's details from the museum staff and visited the very next day.
