This beautiful chawan features the distinctive soft grey glaze that gives this style its name – “nezumi” meaning “mouse” in Japanese. The delicate texture of this glaze differs from the rougher touch the other styles of Shinoyaki often produce. The undulating rim and off-even, wabi-sabi shape provides a unique character to the vessel.

One of the best known ceramic styles from the Mino region, shinoyaki chawan are still prized by tea masters today.

This one of a kind piece comes in a custom wooden box signed by the artist.

Kokeigama

Tucked away at the top of a quiet hill in Tajimi, we were very lucky to discover Kokeigama’s kiln, stumbling upon their work in a local ceramic museum in Tajimi. After purchasing one of his Akashino yunomi and learning Wakao-san was a local craftsman, we got the kiln's details from the museum staff and visited the very next day.
