These delicate Hagi yaki sake cups are beautiful and vibrant Hiragata shaped cups. The balanced rim makes drinking sake a wonderful experience, every time.

Although the cups are blue, only the kiln's signature white ash glaze was used. A thick layer of the ash glaze interacts with the iron in the clay body to create this vivid blue tone. 

As each item is handmade, slight size and colour variations may exist between items.

Senryuzan Kiln

Senryuzan Kiln was founded just before the end of the Edo period in 1826. Since then, it has honoured the traditional spirit and culture of Hagi yaki. Now, led by Akira Yoshiga, Senryuzan Kiln continues to practice traditional methods of the craft. On our most recent visit to Hagi, we joined Yoshiga-san for a tour through their studios and museum. The small team of artists make their own clays and glazes using traditional techniques and continue to carefully craft each piece on kick wheels. Each of these traditional practices are symbolic of Senryuzan Kiln's approach to Hagi yaki.

For nearly 200 years, Senryuzan Kiln has been a custodian of traditional Japanese ceramic craft. The small collective of artists honours the traditional spirit and cultures of Hagi yaki.

Each Senryuzan Kiln vessel is crafted using traditional Hagi yaki clays, techniques and ash glazes before being wood fired in their climbing kiln.

Every piece represents their traditional approach to Hagi yaki.
