Matsuri Brisbane 2024: Sharing Japanese Gifts with the Community

We had the incredible opportunity to be part of Matsuri Brisbane at Whites Hill State School this year. The day was filled with a shared love for Japanese culture, food, and music. We were so thrilled to be able to connect with so many of you at our stall. Thank you to everyone who visited us, explored our collection, and showed such a warm appreciation for the handcrafted Japanese gifts we brought from our store.

A Day to Celebrate Japanese Culture

Matsuri Brisbane is one of our city’s most anticipated cultural festivals, and this year was no exception. From traditional Japanese food stalls to captivating performances, the festival was a beautiful showcase of Japan's rich culture. The energy at Whites Hill State School was electric, as families and individuals came together to enjoy everything from taiko drumming to Japanese tea ceremonies. For us at OKAERI, it was truly heartwarming to see so many people embrace these traditions with such enthusiasm.

Japanese ceramics at Matsuri Brisbane 2024

At our stall, we aimed to bring a little piece of Japan to Brisbane with our carefully curated collection of Japanese homewares and Japanese gifts. Visitors had the chance to explore our range of products, from elegant Japanese ceramics to our popular Chikuseiko Incense. We had something for everyone, whether they were looking for a thoughtful gift or a special item to enhance their home.

The beautifully crafted Black Bamboo Takayama Chasen were a standout for many of you, appreciated for their impressive craftsmanship. Our Makoto Komatsu Whiskey Glasses were another crowd favourite, with so many in awe of the beautiful grip of the handblown crumpled glass. We also showcased our Hiba Wood products, which drew a lot of interest thanks to their calming aroma and natural antibacterial properties.

We were also excited to introduce some exclusive new arrivals at the stall, such as our Rohkagatsu Yohka forest sprays and new Hagi yaki pieces from Senryuzan Kiln. We’re so happy that so many of you found a connection with these items and chose to bring them home as gifts or personal treasures.

Thank You to the Community

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the organisers of Matsuri Brisbane for putting together such a wonderful event, and of course, to everyone who stopped by to say hello at our OKAERI stall. It was an absolute pleasure to meet so many of you in person and share our passion for Japanese gifts and homewares. Congratulations to Nish and Renee who won our two competitions, walking away with matcha and Hagi yaki ceramics!

If you missed out on the festival or didn’t get a chance to visit our stall, don’t worry—you can still explore our collection online. We look forward to bringing more of Japan’s finest homewares to Brisbane in the future!
